My Practice
“We are here to awaken from the illusion of our separateness”
Thich Nhat Hanh
In an era where our mechanistic systems further fragment our connections to nature, each other, and to ourselves, my practice seeks to transcend the notion of duality - the disconnection between mind and body, reason and mystery, emotion and intellect, past and future, self and consciousness, and behave as an integrator and a catalyst for systemic transformation.
This approach challenges the illusion of separateness, inviting viewers to experience a sense of the consequences of fragmentation, as well as the bounty and beauty of unity and wholeness. To help facilitate the awakening to the intrinsic knowledge that we are all interconnected.
My creative process aims to observe and assimilate my own fragments and integrate to become whole, to harmonise the unknown and the known; to explore the non duality of our existence. Giving equal credence to universal wisdom, intuition, imagination and insight, mine is a practice that draws on philosophy, psychology, neuroscience, art, nature and energy as equal partners in a dynamic and infinitely unfolding and enfolding - allowing both action and non action to imbue the work .
My creative process therefore leans heavily on the cultivation of various spiritual, physical and mental practices, as well as an eclectic audio and visual toolkit, which are allowed to then coalesce and synthesise either organically or purposefully into my work, along with time as a medium.
The personal sessions and classes and corporate workshops that I provide to clients, based out of Sundial Studios, also serve as my ongoing research, allowing me to continually learn and evolve, and expand onwards.
I am currently working primarily with acrylics, ink, pastels and collage and time. I allow my work to emerge organically and openly through journalling, layering, painting over, peeling back and scraping through, and building - a constant cycle of creation and destruction, of building and repairing of fragments until the work calls itself whole. I leave works sometimes for weeks or months until we are ready to evolve from the transactional to a deeper energetic connection of resolution and wholeness.

Series: The Healing of Persephone
Inspiration
The myth of Persephone is one that captured my imagination throughout my childhood. The abduction of Demeter’s daughter, torn from the bright, abundant, flowering earth to dwell in darkness in the underworld, transformed not just her own psychology (and mine!) but also her mother’s & Hades’, and this had an irrevocable and lasting impact on the nature of the physical world too.
In darkness there is lightness of spirit, in shadow there is the truth of our deepest natures. “As above, so below; as below, so above.” The infinite cycle of birth, death and rebirth is at the very heart of all of (our) nature. If we learn to embrace and believe in the truth of ourselves, our shadow as well as our light, we can always find beauty, even in the darkness.
Series: Koyaanisqatsi
Inspiration
Inspired by Koyaanisqatsi - the 1982 experimental film by Godfrey Reggio and famously scored by Philip Glass, which is itself inspired by the Hopi word for “Life Out of Balance”.
We are living in the age of the Anthropocene - an age where human decisions and activity have shaped our environment to the point of potentially no return. Alarming signals of climate change, environmental and resource pressures, technological change and influence - in confluence with global political change and major socio demographic shifts - will continue to have unprecedented and uncertain ramifications on how humans will be living and working, now and into the next decade and beyond. (Link to paper)
As humans we are in a uniquely powerful place to more proactively and positively shape the change, to create more balance and harmony, from the inside out.
